How did TAKE CHARGE get started? Back to Top

The State of Louisiana, Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) applied to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for a Section 1115 Research and  Demonstration Waiver on September 9, 2005 with the intent of reducing unintended pregnancies by providing access to family planning services.

The Family Planning Waiver, named TAKE CHARGE, was approved by CMS June 6, 2006. The waiver will increase the number of women who have access to family planning services and will allow women to "TAKE CHARGE" of their reproductive health adequately.  Planned and spaced pregnancies result in healthier moms and babies.
